“A rising tide lifts all boats.” This aphorism is attributed to John F. Kennedy, who knew a thing or two about troubled times, and is more appropriate than ever in the nation he once lead. “Buy local,” is another phrase we are hearing more often these days, and given our struggling economy, supporting local businesses is something everyone can do, no matter their political leanings.

This evening, Three Muses’ publisher attended a literary event that brought together independent businesses and the book lovers who support them. St. Johns Booksellers (see their IndieBound page here,)  hosted a reading by local writers Kristin Thiel and Kessa Shipley, in celebration of the Ink-Filled Page Anthology 2008. Ink-Filled Page is a quarterly literary journal published online by Portland’s own  Indigo Editing & Publications, who prints an anthology each fall.

Inviting atmosphere, surprising sweets, delightful readings, and a healthy number of book sales—a good night for all.
