About Duet with Hummingbird

Ana Callan’s poems are a celebration of the intimacy of humanity and the desire to be swaddled in the divine and sensual world of nature. A collision with a logging truck left the poet crushed in her car, suffering from extensive head injuries. After a near-impossible recovery, she awakened with a newfound sense of wonder for life and the natural world. Duet with Hummingbird is the result.

About the Author

Ana Callan, poet

After winning the Academy of American Poets Award, Ana Callan was encouraged to pursue graduate studies in creative writing, which in turn led to an MA in Poetry from Johns Hopkins University. She has had several stories anthologized internationally. Her novel Taf was published by Cricket Books and received positive reviews in publications such as Publisher’s Weekly. She has been commissioned several times by the Oregonian to write personal essays for their arts and editorial sections. She has served as a Writer in Residence at several writing institutions and has been invited to teach at almost every university and college in Oregon. After her near-death experience in 2000, Ana chose to focus solely on poetry, as she “felt a need to strip bare all artifice, all excess, and focus uncompromisingly on the essential.”

About the Artist

Lori Presthus’s world is one of observation and exploration. For this artist and professional cellist, drawing color across the page with a brush is very similar to drawing a bow across a string, creating different colors in sound. Through art and music, she shares her appreciation of the natural world. She lives near Portland, Oregon.

Duet with Hummingbird (Ana Callan) is graced by the paintings of artist Lori Presthus. From Lori’s art-lori-presthussignature hummingbird on the cover to the beautiful images throughout the book, Lori’s art complements Ana’s poetry. At a recent Three Muses event, Lori generously allowed us to exhibit several original works featured in the book. She has created archival prints, notecards, and bookmarks of these paintings, all of which were well received by buyers.

Lori’s work is currently on display in galleries and specialty stores in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. An extensive catalog of her art is available at LoriPresthus.com. While visiting her site, be sure to check out the Collage, a lovely blend of art and cello recordings by Lori, who is also a professional cellist.

Sales information is included on Lori’s site. On her behalf, prints, cards, and bookmarks from Duet with Hummingbird are also available for sale at Ink & Paper Group, home of Three Muses Press. If you haven’t yet seen the book, we invite you to check out our small Three Muses gallery of images from the book.
