nothing but squaresClass description: Without journaling, Jen Weaver-Neist wouldn’t have survived the angst of her teenage years. And then there was the angst of college, relationships, adulthood, marriage… In fact, it turns out there’s a lot of angst in the world—a lot of reasons to dig a hole and jump into it with your journal and a headful of distress.

Alas, there is hope in the community of shared experience and fresh perspective! Join me for an evening of wine and conversation about journaling—what works and what doesn’t, and ways in which you can get inspired if you’re experiencing a dry spell. A companion piece to the gathering is nothing but squares (by t. litwinchuk), a journal-inspired book of art and written gems from one author’s daily musings. Each attendee will receive a copy of this book, along with plenty of discussion to get the creative juices flowing. We will also save some time for journaling before the night concludes.

Please bring: $30.00 for the class fee, your journal, and a few excerpts to share (if you’re so inclined)

Jen Weaver-Neist, self-portrait

Jen Weaver-Neist is the publisher of Dame Rocket Press (an imprint of Ink & Paper Group) in Portland, Oregon, as well as the president of Women in Portland Publishing. As an only child to a single parent in a small Midwestern town, amusing herself was an absolute necessity growing up. This (and the horrendous styles of the ’80s) ultimately led to journaling and an English degree from St. Cloud State University. And she’s been steeped in the written word and publishing ever since, returning to that loyal companion—the incomplete, angst-ridden journal—whenever time and spirit calls for it.
