Three Muses Press is a modern press operating in today’s rapidly changing publishing world. Our success depends upon the success of our authors and their works. While commercial viability is necessary to our existence, relationships with writers are extremely important to us. We owe it to our authors to communicate effectively throughout the editing, design, production, and marketing phases in order to produce the best possible version of each book. We value the old-fashioned personal commitment no longer the industry norm. As a small, independent press, we offer intense marketing efforts, long-term backlist sales, national distribution, and individual attention to each unique book. We encourage our authors’ active participation in marketing their books. Together, we make a great team!

We recommend having your manuscript professionally edited prior to submission. Most writers are too close to their work to catch the small errors, idiosyncrasies, or inconsistencies that an editor will spot. Professional editing will help each manuscript shine its brightest. The Northwest Independent Editors Guild is a good place to connect with a professional editor who knows your genre or area of writing.

Getting Published. Information is the key to getting your work published. There are many reliable, trustworthy sources available to writers. Unfortunately, there are also unscrupulous folks in the publishing world. We recommend consulting sites such as Preditors & Editors for practical information about protecting yourself and your work. Here are a few resources we recommend:

Writer’s Market ®- For publication in general, we suggest picking up a current edition of Writer’s Market®, an annually published, comprehensive resource for writers. This reputable guidebook is available online, in bookstores and libraries, and lists contact information and submission guidelines for most literary publications and publishing houses.

The Writer’s Chronicle - (published by the Association of Writers & Writing Programs) Wonderful interviews with authors. Includes extensive calls for submissions and literary contests. Subscription discounts for students.

Poets & Writers Magazine - This publication and its parent organization Poets & Writers, Inc., offer support and guidance to creative writers. They also provide valuable information about grants and awards.

For publication with Three Muses specifically, please review our submission guidelines.

Three Muses publishes fiction—works in translation, short story collections, and novel-length manuscripts. Our fiction can be classified as contemporary or literary. We are looking for strong voices and diverse themes, works that promote reflection, add beauty to our existence, expand our horizons, and relate to real lives in cultures both familiar and unfamiliar. Under those parameters, Three Muses will also consider small-format art books, creative nonfiction, poetry, and memoir.
