As a writer, I was interested to see how publishing houses evaluate manuscripts, and I certainly got the opportunity to do that as I read over submissions during my internship. I was also curious whether editorial work would be something I’d consider as a possible career, and now I know that it is. —Samara Holub-Moorman, editorial intern

The book design and production internship at Ink & Paper Group was outstanding: unequivocal guidance amidst a dynamic collegial environment, and…design freedom! A bestseller on the intern list.! —Laura Dewing, design intern

I loved being an intern for Ink and Paper Group. I was challenged with a variety of tasks: acquisitions editing, developmental editing (working with the author to improve a piece and make it publishable), and line editing. I enjoyed communicating with our authors and exploring all the sides of being an editor. Perhaps most important, however, was the, way I felt about working with the rest of the team. Ink and Paper Group has an excellent employee morale and a warm, nurturing atmosphere. The management team truly strived to work with me on personalizing my job description so that I would learn all aspects of the job that I wanted to learn. They provided me with constructive feedback and treated me with respect at all times. I feel that this internship has been an asset to my resume, and set an amazing foundation for my career as an editor. —Laura Meehan, editorial intern

One reason I applied to intern with Ink & Paper Group is that several people mentioned how great their experiences were. I actually don’t think I did any mundane work here. I was impressed by how interesting all my assignments were, how you had such a variety of jobs for me to do, and how much you trusted me with. —Malini Kochhar, marketing and editorial intern

It was a good opportunity for me to apply some of the things that I learned in … Publications Management class.… I think that my habit of asking either, “Can we afford to do this?” or “How do we reach our target market?” has helped shape new attitudes at Ink & Paper Group. Or at least I’d like to think that it has! … The company is changing rapidly, so I suppose that we won’t know for sure until the moolah starts to roll in. —Rita Tiwari, business intern

[In answer to: "Did you achieve your personal goals for this internship?"] Yes—in fact, I exceeded them. I had hoped to get a sense of life on the “other side of the table,” having come to editing from a career as a novelist, and brush up on/broaden my skills, but the internship went far beyond those goals in terms of what it achieved. —Jenn Crowell, editorial intern
